    Presentation in The Temple

John August Swanson's serigraph Presentation in the Temple tells the story of Mary and Joseph bringing the infant Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to consecrate him to the Lord as told in Lk 2:22-38. They make an offering of two doves as a symbol of their thanksgiving for their firstborn. The blind Simeon is healed when he sees the Christ child. He and the prophetess Anna carry the baby into the temple and present the newborn Messiah, in praise and honor, to God. This beautiful serigraph intricately illustrates this encounter between the faithful older generation and the coming new life to be found through the baby Jesus.
